About Us

UNICON Insurance & Reinsurance Brokers Corporation started as a subsidiary of JG Summit Holdings, Inc. and was founded by Mr. John Gokongwei, Jr. to cater to the insurance needs of the conglomerate. It was initially a part of the Universal Consolidated Group, the largest business unit of the Gokongwei Group, and was then registered as an insurance broker on August 13, 1980.

With the scale of the conglomerate’s business opportunities, UNICON was able to hit its first One Billion Peso Mark in terms of premium in the year 2012 with a total of 1.3 Billion pesos premium produced. In 2017, UNICON posted 1.7 Billion pesos as gross annual production on its life and non-life businesses with a total commission of 226M, giving the company the Top 7 spot among the insurance brokers in the Philippines. The company maintained its rank until 2019 with a total premium production of PHP2.3B and a total commission earned worth PHP316M.

Aiming to expand its market portfolio and grow its revenue, Robinsons Bank Corporation acquired 40% of UNICON’s total outstanding stocks while the 60% remains with its holding company. With this new venture, the company is set to grow the business opportunities from RBank’s established network through their branches, clients, and digital banking channels.

Meanwhile, its holding company, JG Summit Holdings, Inc., is one of the largest and most diverse conglomerates in the Philippines with a Market Capitalization of PHP 526.5 Billion. It has business operations in air transportation, banking and finance services, food manufacturing, real estate and property development, hotels, petrochemical and naphtha cracking, power generation, agro-industrial, publishing, retail, and telecommunications. With the vastness of its holding company’s businesses, UNICON guarantees to manage the insurance requirements of different businesses and makes sure that the most suitable insurance solutions are assembled for every type of business operation.

The company is now being led by Ms. Triza Minnel L. Oreta as the President & General Manager, who is directly reporting to Mr. Elfren Antonio S. Sarte, CEO and President of Robinsons Bank, and now the Chairman of UNICON.
